Send a Public Comment Supporting Clean Cars

The Environmental Protection Agency and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration proposed new standards that will make our cars and trucks cleaner and more efficient. I just sent a public comment supporting strong final rules that will take vehicle standards out of the 1970s and into the 21st century, laying a strong foundation for the cleaner vehicles we need to end our reliance on oil and curb global warming.

If you're into it, check it out:

IHOP, say it ain't so!

IHOP exclusively uses eggs from hens crammed into cruel and inhumane battery cages, where each hen can barely move an inch her entire life. I hope you will join me and urge the company to simply start moving away from battery cage eggs--a modest step that will reduce animal suffering.

Speak Up for Leatherback Sea Turtles

Recognized as one of the most important nesting grounds for Leatherback sea turtles in the U.S. and home to more than 50 rare, threatened and endemic species, Puerto Rico's Northeast Ecological Corridor Nature Reserve is in danger. Urge the Governor of Puerto Rico, the Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior plus the Administrator of NOAA to protect this extraordinary natural area.

Act to Protect Our Water!

Dangerous pollutants are threatening the health of our waters. Nitrogen and phosphorous pollution have become so bad that it threatens the survival of our inland and coastal waters.

Sign a petition to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and ask that they set nitrogen and phosphorous pollution standards that protect the waters of the entire Mississippi River Basin and the Gulf of Mexico.

These standards will set the stage for addressing this problem throughout the entire United States.

Help bring back the wolves

Wolves have played a big role in Washington state. We can help restore wolves to Washington! I signed a petition to Washington’s governor urging her to support wolf restoration, and I hope you will too. Add your name to the petition online at:

http://bit.ly/2p11Cq

Tragically, the extensive wolf extermination campaigns of the late 1800s eliminated these magnificent animals from the Pacific Northwest long ago--tearing a gaping hole in the natural balance and cultural tapestry that makes Washington so special.

Now wolves are beginning to return to Washington, dispersing from Canada and the northern Rockies. Now Washington officials are considering how best to manage these amazing animals and where they should allow wolves to be restored. They need to hear from us.

Let Washington Governor Chris Gregoire know that you support wolves in Washington state--including the western coastal range! Take action online at:

Thanks for helping…

Hold Big Polluters Accountable

Right now, only a handful of sources, including coal power plants, are responsible for more than half of all US global warming emissions. I just sent a comment to the public register supporting the EPA's Big Polluters rule, which is a major step toward holding these facilities accountable.

Give the Polar Bear a Fighting Chance

Hola amigos,

I just took action to let the Fish and Wildlife Services know that the polar bear needs all the help it can get as it adapts to a warmer Arctic. The designation of critical habitat is a good first step.

Check it out here.

Thanks.
