Two Million Strong for Net Neutrality

The fight for Net Neutrality has reached a crucial moment. The FCC Chairman just called for new Net Neutrality rules, and he is being supported by President Obama, Speaker Pelosi, and numerous congressional leaders. Now we need a powerful, public show of support. More than 1.6 million people have already called for Congress and the FCC to support Net Neutrality. If we can reach 2 million, we'll send a resounding message that Washington will not be able to ignore. Petition to the EPA to protect our water from nitrogen & phosphorus pollution

Dangerous pollutants are threatening the health of our waters. Nitrogen and phosphorus pollution have become so bad that it threatens the survival of our inland and coastal waters.

Sign the petition to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and ask that they set nitrogen and phosphorus pollution standards that protect the waters of the entire Mississippi River Basin and the Gulf of Mexico.

http://action.sierraclub.org/ProtectOurWaters

These standards will set the stage for addressing this problem throughout the entire United States.

Hold Big Polluters Accountable

Right now, only a handful of sources, including coal power plants, are responsible for more than half of all US global warming emissions. I just sent a comment to the public register supporting the EPA's Big Polluters rule, which is a major step toward holding these facilities accountable.

Speak Out for Beleaguered Belugas

As the population of Alaska's Cook Inlet beluga whales plummeted from over 1,200 in 1979 to only 326 in 2009, these iconic whales were finally listed as endangered in 2008.

Now, a new proposal announced by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) aims to protect more than 3,000 square miles of their aquatic home--and would give these struggling marine mammals the protections they need to survive.

I just took action online to tell the federal officials to save Alaska's iconic Cook Inlet belugas and you can too--just follow this link:
http://action.defenders.org/belugahome

Together, we can help save these magnificent animals.

Thanks.

Help Save Wildlife Around the Globe

Send a message asking your representative to cosponsor the Global Conservation Act.

Scientists estimate that one-half to two-thirds of Earth’s species could be driven to the brink of extinction by the end of this century. The Global Conservation Act would create an international conservation strategy for the U.S. government and provide the resources needed to turn the tide on the growing biodiversity crisis.

Help Save Kenya’s Lions from a Deadly U.S. Neurotoxin

Right now, a poison made by an American company--a product that the Environmental Protection Agency says is too toxic for use in the United States--is driving some of the last wild lions of the African plains to extinction.

Just a handful of carbofuran can kill an entire pride of lions. Sadly, this awful poison is still sold in stores (and widely used) across Kenya and East Africa.

Send a Public Comment Supporting Clean Cars

The Environmental Protection Agency and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration proposed new standards that will make our cars and trucks cleaner and more efficient. I just sent a public comment supporting strong final rules that will take vehicle standards out of the 1970s and into the 21st century, laying a strong foundation for the cleaner vehicles we need to end our reliance on oil and curb global warming.

Help bring back the wolves

Wolves have played a big role in Washington state. We can help restore wolves to Washington! I signed a petition to Washington’s governor urging her to support wolf restoration, and I hope you will too. Add your name to the petition online at:

http://bit.ly/2p11Cq

Tragically, the extensive wolf extermination campaigns of the late 1800s eliminated these magnificent animals from the Pacific Northwest long ago--tearing a gaping hole in the natural balance and cultural tapestry that makes Washington so special.

Now wolves are beginning to return to Washington, dispersing from Canada and the northern Rockies. Now Washington officials are considering how best to manage these amazing animals and where they should allow wolves to be restored. They need to hear from us.

Let Washington Governor Chris Gregoire know that you support wolves in Washington state--including the western coastal range! Take action online at:

Thoughts on my trip to PA for CKY

It was my first concert since December 28th. I was seeing my 2nd favorite band of all-time in their hometown on the last gig of their tour. Bam Margera was not there but loads of others from his crew were there. They played @ an awesome venue in an extremely busy part of town. It was so the opposite of everything that I've done with my time since moving to NC that it touched every sense receptor 1000 times over. Even sleeping in my car was good despite finding myself in the parking lot of a hotel haha.. I only slept for four hours in the trunk of my rental but I felt more invigorated @ 8a than I normally do @ 10a! I drove around West Chester, PA, for a little while before hitting the road and it was such a beautiful morning. I didn't want to leave! Bam Margera lives in a beautiful area. It was such a worthwhile trip and in retrospect, something that I desperately needed to do. I always forget how good vacation can be for the soul.

Premier U.S. Fighter Jet Has Major Shortcomings
F-22's Maintenance Demands Growing

The United States' top fighter jet, the Lockheed Martin F-22, has recently required more than 30 hours of maintenance for every hour in the skies, pushing its hourly cost of flying to more than $44,000, a far higher figure than for the warplane it replaces, confidential Pentagon test results show.

A Keeper is Cheaper

by: William Jeanes | from: AARP The Magazine

"I miss my car and just want to see it back sitting in my driveway," says Irv Gordon, 68, a retired schoolteacher who lives in East Patchogue, New York. The average car on the road in this country is nine years old and logs 15,000 miles a year. Gordon has driven the sporty red Volvo P1800S he bought back in 1966 a lot more than that—an astounding 2.7 million miles. Just now the car is in the shop. Gordon says he has learned to get the carburetors rebuilt every 900,000 miles, whether they need it or not.

Tell Holder: It's time to prosecute Cheney.

The news is buzzing that Dick Cheney would welcome a commission to investigate Bush-era torture--but we need to make it clear that a mere investigation is not enough. What we need is a prosecution.

The buzz intensifed on May 10, when Cheney told CBS' Bob Schieffer that he hopes for a public discussion of the CIA memos on torture--or, as he refers to it, "enhanced interrogation techniques."

Only after a thorough investigation by a U.S. attorney will we know for sure whether and to what extent Cheney broke the law and besmirched the Constitution while serving in the Bush administration. And if he did break the law, he deserves to be prosecuted and sent to prison.

I just took action to tell Attorney General Holder to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Cheney and--pending the outcome of that investigation--to prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law. I hope you will, too.

Please have a look and take action.

Stop off-shore tax loopholes

Hey there,

For years the biggest companies in America have paid less taxes than the rest of us by 'sheltering' their assets in off-shore banks. But today, President Obama said 'no more'.

Closing tax loopholes like Obama suggests could add $210 billion to our economy--money we can use for education, jobs and health care. But Corporate America's worst actors--including Bank of America, Citigroup and others--are fighting to hang onto their Cayman-islands loophole. Tell your member of Congress to make Corporate America pay their share by eliminating these tax haven loopholes.

Stop Canada's Cruel Seal Hunt

This year the Canadian government will allow commercial sealers to slaughter 280,000 seals for their fur. Almost all of them will probably be babies as young as 12 days old.

Stand with me today to stop the seal hunt forever by joining the Canadian seafood boycott.

Seal hunting is an off-season activity for Canada's east coast commercial fishermen. They earn a small fraction of their incomes from selling seal skins to the fur industry: less than $7 million (Canadian) in 2008, compared to the nearly $2.4 billion taken in by the Canadian fishing industry from seafood exports to the United States.

The connection between the commercial fishing industry and the seal hunt gives consumers all over the world the power to end the cruel slaughter of seals.

The Canadian fishing industry has suffered a $750 million (Canadian) decline in the value of snow crab exports to the United States since the boycott began. That's more than $200 million a year.

Once you've signed the pledge, you'll be able to identify Canadian seafood by using The HSUS's downloadable pocket guide. You can also find out which restaurants and other businesses have also signed the pledge -- and which ones to contact to ask them to sign on.

Thanks for joining me in ending this cruel hunt. Here is the link to sign the pledge: http://www.hsus.org/protectseals

This is so wrong under any circumstance...

Media-Thailand: Blogger Gets 10 Years for Insulting Monarchy
by Marwaan Macan-Markar (bangkok), Saturday, April 04, 2009, Inter Press Service

Suwicha Thakhor’s nightmare in a Thai jail is set to continue after a court delivered a harsh verdict this week that contained an unequivocal message: the Internet in this country is being policed with the aim of limiting free expression.

On April 3rd, the criminal court sentenced the 34-year-old father of three children to 10 years in jail for posting an image on the Internet that was deemed to have insulted the Thai royal family.

Suwicha’s sentence--initially for the maximum of 20 years but reduced to half--has pushed this South-east Asian nation to join the ranks of countries where bloggers can be imprisoned for expressing their views, such as Thailand’s western neighbour, military-ruled Burma.

The verdict also saw the three judges who presided over this groundbreaking case take measures that went against the grain of an open trial, which is often the case in other criminal cases. Reporters present in the wooden paneled chamber were ordered not to take notes of the proceedings. The court also did not say how the defamatory photos were doctored.

The crimes Suwicha had committed included violating the 2007 computer crime law, which came into force when Thailand was under the grip of a junta that staged a coup in September 2006, the country’s 18th putsch. This law, criticized for being a crackdown on the freedoms of the country’s cyber community, threatens violators with maximum five-year jail term.

He was also tried for breaking the draconian lese-majeste law, which has been in the penal code for the past 100 years to prosecute anyone who expresses a view that tarnishes the image of the revered royal family. Violators face a maximum of 15 years in jail.

‘’This is the longest sentence in recent times for a lese-majeste-related offense,’’ says David Streckfuss, an U.S. academic who has written extensively on the Thai law aimed at insulating the monarchy from criticism.

‘’This is the first case of an Internet user convicted under the computer crime act related to national security or lese-majeste,’’ adds Supinya Klangnarong, a media rights campaigner who head the Thai Netizens Network, a group lobbying for the rights of Internet users. ‘’The sentence came as a shock. It means that this could happen to any Internet user in Thailand.’’

‘’Panic, fear, frustration and anxiety will grow among the Thai Internet community,’’ she warned during an interview. ‘’It seems like the computer crime act has become a tool to go after people. We have not seen nor are aware of what he did in cyberspace.’’

Suwicha’s lawyer concurs. ‘’This case sends out a message to the Internet community that they have to be very careful, because they can be easily targeted, easily prosecuted,’’ Teerapan Pankeeree told IPS outside the courtroom. ‘’Internet isn’t a free space, a liberal space anymore.’’ There are some 14 million Internet users in this country of close to 66 million people.

Suwicha’s nightmare began on Jan. 14, when the oil engineer was arrested and charged by the police for posting a video clip on the YouTube website that was considered to be defaming the royal family. He had done so using a pseudonym.

The police had tracked his web postings and read his e-mails, according to his wife, Thitima Thakhor. ‘’He was arrested after he had dropped his children at school.’’

During the time Suwicha spent in jail, the authorities have also targeted others for expressing their views on the Internet. Such attempts to limit free speech were for the same reason as Suwicha’s acts of lese-majeste.

Among the victims was Chiranuch Premchaiporn, editor of ‘Prachatai’, a popular alternative news website that posts political and critical content rarely mentioned in the local media. She was charged for violating article 15 of the computer crime law, since she had left a comment on her website for 20 days in October last year.

The crackdown on bloggers and Internet users in Thailand is part of a trend that has been gathering pace as the country’s conservative political establishment seeks to maintain an image of the royal family as one that is free of any blemishes.

The country’s information and communications ministry has confirmed that 2,300 websites have been blocked for comments that insult the monarchy and 400 more are on a possible ban list.

The justice ministry has revealed that over 10,000 websites are being monitored for similar comments that defame the monarchy. The authorities have also reportedly invested 1.28 million U.S. dollars to establish an Internet firewall to block websites that have anti-monarchy remarks.

The country’s 2007 constitution, which was drafted by a committee chosen by the junta that was in power, has language to ensure that the monarchy is protected. It states: ‘’The King shall be enthroned in a position of revered worship and shall not be violated. No person shall expose the King to any sort of accusation or action.’’

King Bhumibol Adulyadej, 81, is revered by the country and has been on the throne for more than 60 years.

Suwicha pleaded guilty to uploading information on the Internet that violated such constitutional language. He had said so soon after the police had arrested him in his home in a province in north-eastern Thailand.

But little could prepare him for the sentence that he received. He openly wept after the judgement was delivered and he was led to a large cell on the ground floor of the criminal court.

‘’I need help. This is very painful, too much,’’ he cried as he held on to the iron bars of the cell. ‘’This has to stop.’’

Will they ever quit butting in on us?

"Cybersecurity Bill Proposes Unprecedented Government Power Over the Internet - A cybersecurity bill introduced today in the Senate would give the federal government extraordinary power over private sector Internet services, applications and software. The Cybersecurity Act of 2009 would, for example, give the President unfettered power to shut down Internet traffic in emergencies or disconnect any critical infrastructure system or network on national security grounds. The bill would grant the Commerce Department the ability to override all privacy laws to access any information about Internet usage in connection with a new role in tracking cybersecurity threats. The bill, introduced by Sens. John Rockefeller and Olympia Snowe, would also give the government unprecedented control over computer software and Internet services, threatening innovation, freedom and privacy. CDT President and CEO Leslie Harris said, 'The cybersecurity threat is real, but such a drastic federal intervention in private communications technology and networks could harm both security and privacy.' Wolves rock, so help them out!

Limpy (Wolf 253M) was one of the most celebrated wolves in the Druid pack, known by wolf watchers around the world.

This world-famous wolf was gunned down just outside Yellowstone National Park on March 28th, 2008--one of the first of more than 100 wolves to be killed when the Bush/Cheney Administration eliminated vital federal protections for wolves last year.

Defenders of Wildlife and our allies stopped the Bush/Cheney plan in court, but now--just one year after Limpy’s death--U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar has once again eliminated protections for wolves in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies.

It’s a plan that could lead to the slaughter of more than two-thirds of the wolves in the Northern Rockies and derail efforts to return these magnificent animals to parts of their historic range in Washington, Oregon, Colorado and Utah.

Please take action and urge President Obama to maintain the Endangered Species Act protections for gray wolves in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies.

Help Imperiled Coral Reefs and Tropical Forests

Urge your members of Congress to support the Tropical Forest and Coral Conservation Act.

This important legislation will help developing countries reduce foreign debt while protecting tropical forests and endangered marine habitats around the world. Protecting tropical forests and coral reefs is critical to addressing climate change, maintaining species diversity, developing life-saving drugs, and establishing more sustainable local economies.

During the last Congress, the TFCCA passed the House of Representatives by voice vote and passed out of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee by voice vote with 10 cosponsors.

The TFCCA is a routine re-authorization of a successful international conservation program that has enjoyed wide bipartisan support for 10 years. The only substantive change is a very worthwhile expansion of the focus to include the protection and conservation of coral ecosystems.

Coral reefs are often called the "rain forests of the sea." The rate at which we are losing them is alarming. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, 60 percent of the world's coral reefs may be destroyed by the year 2050 if the present rate of degradation continues. With Indonesia recently declared eligible for assistance, the passage of this legislation would help ensure that funds could be used to protect the important reefs there and in other nearby "Coral Triangle" countries.

The existing law has generated $175 million (made available over the next 10 to 25 years) to help conserve more than 50 million acres of tropical forests in Asia, the Caribbean, Africa, and Central and South America.

Tropical rain forests are immensely valuable. More than 50 percent of the world's terrestrial species are found in tropical forests and over 2,000 tropical forest plants have been identified by scientists as having anti-cancer properties. Yet these special forests are being felled at staggering rates. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that 25.7 million acres of tropical forest were permanently destroyed each year from 2000 to 2005.

Re-authorization of the TFCCA will ensure that critically important activities already under way will continue, that threatened tropical forests are protected in many more countries around the world, and that coral reefs are conserved as well.

So once again, please urge your members of Congress to support the Tropical Forest and Coral Conservation Act.

From Harvard University, it is using WCG as a resource to "calculate the electronic properties of tens of thousands of organic materials--many more than could ever be tested in a lab--and determine which candidates are most promising for developing affordable solar energy technology." I have been donating my computer(s) to research since 2006 and I am proud to help out in any way that I can. Alternative energy sources are such a vital need for us to pursue these days and if this project can help, then you should consider participating!

Deep Packet Inspection Puts Open Internet at Risk

"The uncertainty surrounding Net Neutrality has given rise to a technology known as Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) that offers Internet service providers unprecedented control over Internet content, according to a new paper released by Free Press. Deep Packet Inspection: The End of the Internet as We Know It? argues that the use of DPI technology by Internet service providers should raise serious concerns for both users and lawmakers."

Zimbabwe in Crisis

Zimbabwe's new unity government is inheriting a lot of old problems. A devastating cholera outbreak has killed more than 3,000 people, hunger is widespread, and political issues remain unresolved despite months of negotiations. That's why the African Union must do everything it can in its official role as guarantor of the new unity government.

Add your name to the petition

Urge President Obama to Appoint a Regional Envoy to Deal with the Conflict in Darfur

Many "think that the violence in Darfur is a local problem, confined to Sudan. But with ongoing conflicts in Chad and the Central African Republic (CAR), and with rebels and refugees constantly traveling across the borders of all three countries, the problem is a regional one.

President Obama is committed to solving this problem. He is close to appointing a special envoy to deal with the human rights and humanitarian crisis in Darfur. But focus must be broader than Darfur to solve the problem. The conflicts in Sudan, Chad, and the CAR are interconnected, and any envoy must be given authority to deal with the entire region.

Fill out the form here to ask President Obama to appoint a regional envoy who will work with all parties to the conflicts, as well as the regional and international communities, to advocate a solution to the crisis."

Congress: Pass a Budget that Ensures Our Clean Energy Future!

President Obama's proposed federal budget will help rebuild and renew our economy by setting the right priorities for America: invest in clean energy to create millions of new green jobs, fight global warming and end our dependence on oil.

Please help get the word out to officials to pass a budget that reflects a new direction for our country's energy policy--a budget that takes the first step to finally tackling the issue of climate change and spurs our clean energy economy.

President Obama's budget plan not only puts us on the right path for a clean energy future but returns funding to protect important environmental initiatives like clean water protection, Great Lakes protection, high speed rail and the Superfund toxic waste program.

Please help make certain that the federal budget puts us back on the right track to protect the environment and boost our clean energy economy.

I just contacted my members of Congress asking that they support President Obama's budget priorities of clean energy and tackling climate change. Join me by taking action too!

We Deserve the Truth!

"During the last 8 years, crimes were committed in our name. Secret wiretaps. Illegal detentions. Torture.

Senator Pat Leahy (D-VT) wants the truth--who committed crimes, when were they authorized, and why? This isn't about gotcha politics or finger pointing, it's about responsibly looking at the past so we can have a better future. That's why Leahy held a Senate hearing about creating a special Truth Commission to investigate the activities of the Bush era.

Show Sen. Leahy that we stand behind him as he begins the search for answers."

How does health care in your state measure up?

"The Commonwealth Fund ranks health care in each state and estimates how quality of life would be enhanced, including overall financial savings, if a state improved its health care system."

Tell Congress to cut programs in the Pentagon budget that don't work.

"In his Inaugural Address, President Obama said, 'The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works, whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified. Where the answer is yes, we intend to move forward. Where the answer is no, programs will end.'

A collection of military experts have already identified billions of dollars of wasteful programs which don't work, and should end.

Tell Congress to dump the useless programs, so we can afford things which truly make America stronger."

Homeland Security Intelligence Needs Focus, CDT Tells Congress

"In congressional testimony yesterday, the Center for Democracy & Technology cautioned that a growing system for collection and sharing of homeland security intelligence has inappropriately targeted First Amendment and other innocent activity. Citing examples of abuse, CDT called on a subcommittee of the House Homeland Security Committee to ensure that domestic intelligence efforts better focus on possible criminal conduct and that such efforts are brought under strong privacy protection guidelines."

Help stop the killing of Alaska's wolves

I just took action at SaveWolves.org to end the brutal slaughter of Alaska's wolves through aerial gunning, and I hope that you'll join me.

More than 800 wolves have already been shot dead under the state's brutal aerial gunning program. The Alaska Board of Game allows marksmen to shoot wolves from aircraft, or use low-flying airplanes to chase the wolves, run the helpless creatures to exhaustion, then gun them down at point-blank range once they're too tired to run any further.

If you have a heart, then you probably feel that these pathetic losers should stop hunting this way. It's one thing to control the wolf population, but hunt like a real man--or woman!--and don't go about it in a manner that will clearly define you as a weak, pathetic individual. There was a time when there existed a majority of people that respected the hunt. Help me protect these magnificent creatures against the douchebags in Alaska hunting like this by clicking the link below to send a free message to President Obama urging him to enforce the federal Airborne Hunting Act before it's too late for Alaska's wolves.

Please go to SaveWolves.org to take action now.

Then forward this message to your friends and family and ask them to join you.

Thanks for helping to protect our precious wolves.

Can you add your name?

I think that you would agree that it is time to move our country to a clean, prosperous and forward-thinking future. That’s why I just signed the Repower America petition urging Congress to take bold action on climate change, starting by capping carbon pollution.

Will you sign, too?

http://www.repoweramerica.org/carboncap

Powerful forces have already raked in billions of dollars to maintain our struggling, fossil-fuel economy. They deny the need for change. They say we should keep polluting our air. But we know clean energy works for America.

Please add your name to this important petition:

Thank you!

Help end mountaintop removal coal mining!

A message from the Sierra Club:

"A recent court decision just opened the floodgates on a new wave of mountaintop removal coal mines, releasing close to 100 new permits to bury streams with coal mining waste, which is a detrimental component in the mountaintop removal process.

Contact your member of Congress today and ask them to cosponsor the Clean Water Protection Act, H.R. 1310, which can help protect our streams and communities from the devastating effects of mountaintop removal coal mining.

I am sad to report that yesterday the first of these permits received the green light to begin their mining operations, with others soon to follow. Should the remaining 90+ permits go forward, over 200 miles of streams will be buried with mining waste, and the health and safety of communities in Central Appalachia will be even further jeopardized.

The Clean Water Protection Act would close a dangerous loophole created by the Bush administration, and would prevent mining companies from burying waterways with their waste. To date, close to 2,000 streams have been destroyed and now 200 more miles hang in the balance.

Next week, over 150 volunteers will be traveling to Washington, DC, to talk to Members of Congress about mountaintop removal. By sending an email today, you can help make sure their message is heard in our nation’s capitol. Use this link to contact your member of Congress today:

Thanks for all that you do to protect the environment.

Looking to get rid of an old cell phone?

Don't let it end up in a landfill! After careful consideration and a little bias, I figured to dump off a couple of my old phones at a Verizon Wireless store because of their HopeLine phone recycling program. I chose this program over others specifically because the end result helps out those Americans in need of support against domestic violence.

You can learn more about it from here and here.

In another recycling effort, you can also help prevent spent rechargeable batteries from entering landfills. Get more information by clicking here!

South Park's "The Ring" (Original Air Date: 03.11.09)

South Park's season premiere was pretty rad, ripping on Disney and the Jonas Brothers. One personal thing that stood out to me was a small jab at them lamely using the phrase, "That's how we roll." All I could think of is how it only makes a certain unidentified wannabe--a kid who NICKNAMED HIMSELF after a chick (less focus on nicknaming oneself after a chick and more focus on NICKNAMING YOURSELF; mega-lame!)--seem that much more lame than he already is. Posers never win.

Added Link: ODI

I added a link to Verizon Wireless’ Open Development Initiative (ODI) to my blog's |Causes| section after reading up on it today. ODI is a Verizon program "designed to encourage the development community to create new products, applications and services" beyond what already exists. The site provides information, events and presentations for your viewing pleasure and I found it worth sharing.

Special interests vs. clean cars

If you write a note today, you can help reduce the 20% of our nation's carbon emissions that come from cars, and set automakers on the path to cleaner automobiles.

Please support California's waiver request to set stronger pollution control standards for cars.

Those opposed to progress on auto emissions are speaking out to protect the status quo and to win this victory for clean energy, we need to speak even louder than these entrenched special interests.

The EPA needs to hear from us!

The state of California is ready to take action to reduce global warming pollution from cars, and 13 other states are ready too.

The opposition has their sights set on slowing this progress -- arguing that statewide actions won't work and claiming that automakers don't need any encouragement to make cleaner cars.

We can't let the special interests block this much-needed action.

Your voice will make a difference so let it be heard!

California must be allowed to reduce emissions critical to helping solve the climate crisis and when they do, it will pave the way for reductions in auto emissions all over this country and guide the auto industry onto the road of clean energy.

Please tell the EPA today that you support this action to Repower America.

Thanks! (http://www.RepowerAmerica.org/epawaiver)

It's Been a While....

I have not posted in a while so thought that I would share a link for those Americans (or at least Massachusetts residents) who still need to file their taxes. If you meet one of the following:

  • Qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), or
  • Earned $30,000 or less Adjusted Gross Income (AGI), or
  • Served Active Duty Military (including Reservists and National Guard) with a military W2 and AGI of $56,000 or less.
You can prepare and e-file both your federal and state returns online for free. I have used TurboTax over the past few years now and I trust it and think that it is a good program with which to file your taxes. To use the free "Freedom Edition", click here.

Good riddance, 2008

In a year where I lost my job, failed at getting a new one, saw the US economy bend over backwards and realize what the people around me are really about, I am glad to see 2008 go and while 2009 does not have much positive outlook (for me at least), I hope that 2009 stops the "this year is worse than last" trend.

Happy New Year.
