Coldplay/Weekend Recall
Wow, the Coldplay concert last night was great. They were fantastic, played great songs and I even high-fived Chris Martin running straight by me! It concluded my only weekend off from work this summer, and it was fun. Firstly though, Friday night I had my annual dinner that my friends ought to have shown up for, though realistically my legitimate friends did. Me, MeF, Tim & Alex had a fun time @ Chili's and viewing The Life of David Gayle over Tim's house afterwards. We would have gone to FooBar if MeF & I had not been so tired. It was okay though, we had fun and it was worth going home to sleep. It was after midnight anyway, so no big deal.
On Saturday, MeF and I hung around my house tinkering with computer matters. Though we did run to my bank real quick, which was unexpected fun as I talked to the lovely ladies there for some time concerts and UMass. One girl there resided on the floor above me last year and I didn't even know it. Small world, no? Eventually MeF and I split ways and headed out of Worcester. Last I had seen him was on 495, me sitting in the long line of traffic getting off @ Exit 11 to go to the Tweeter Center. Man that traffic was something aweful.
Well after about a 30 minutes, I finally parked my car and headed inside. I went alone so I didn't have the luxury of hanging out somewhere nor meet random strangers sans Jimmy (haha). I ran into my buddy Pat from UMass, as he works at Tweeter. We spoke briefly, pointed out Bonnie to me and where I was to sit (in folding chairs along the very edge of the covered seating area), then I sat in my folded chair the rest of the time until Coldplay came on. The opening band, Black Mountain(?), was okay. Rather experimental sounding, they were reminiscent of '70s rock. They played a rather short set.
It took around an hour for the stage to be set for Coldplay, rather unusual in my opinion. But when the came on and opened with Square One, it was electric and the crowd was totally into it. They played for over an hour and a half with a short encore at the end. Every song was great and what made their performance better was that you could feel that they really enjoyed being up there playing for us. They themselves were terrific, as well. They are very talented musicians. It is slightly the best show I've ever gone to, just better than Jane's Addiction and Green Day. The best part was when Chris ran off stage and around the seating area, which is where I got to be right next to him briefly. How great is that? I had a blast. This show was quite unique - quite colorful and bright, acknowledgeable of the fans. Green Day had been interactive with the crowd, but in this way. It was simply a great show.
I was thoroughly satisfied in going, somewhat feeling bad no one else could go though. After the show I took my time getting to my car. I eventually sat in my car listening to my CDs for an hour and a half, finally leaving at 1 AM. Traffic on the highway wasn't too bad once I finally got out of it in the parking lots at Tweeter. By the time I got home I was thoroughly exhausted. The whole night was awesome.
